Embroidery Machines

Embroidery machines stitch pre-programmed or user-imported designs onto fabric automatically using a motorized hooping system. They’re distinct from standard sewing machines and are dedicated tools for a specific craft.

Key things to know before buying

Hoop size determines design capability. A 4” x 4” hoop (standard entry level) limits design size and requires more repositioning. A 5” x 7” hoop (Brother PE800) handles more complex designs without interruption. Know what hoop size covers your intended projects before buying.

You need a stabilizer. Embroidery requires backing material (stabilizer) to prevent fabric distortion. This is a consumable; budget for it.

Embroidery-only vs combination machine. Embroidery-only machines (PE800) are optimized for one task. Combination sewing/embroidery machines (Brother SE series) add standard sewing capability at a trade-off in embroidery area and price. Choose based on whether you also need regular sewing capability from the same machine.

Design file format matters. Brother machines use .PES format. Confirm that designs you plan to use are available in your machine’s format before purchasing.
